Celebrations Events and Attractions The History of Fiesta Days In 1949, Mayor Roland H. Aaker, started the first Fiesta Days in tribute to our sister-city relationship with Montevideo, Uruguay, which began in 1905 with the exchange of flags. Through the years, tokens of Good Will have been exchanged between the two cities. In 1949 the citizens of Montevideo, Uruguay presented the people of Montevideo, Minnesota an 11 foot bronze statue of Jose Artigas, Montevideo, Uruguay's "Father of Independence." The celebration consists of four days of a variety of activities, concluding with a parade on Sunday afternoon.
