Events and Attractions The History of Fiesta Days In 1949, Mayor Roland
H. Aaker, started the first Fiesta Days in tribute to our sister-city
relationship with Montevideo, Uruguay, which began in 1905 with the
exchange of flags. Through the years, tokens of Good Will have been
exchanged between the two cities. In 1949 the citizens of Montevideo,
Uruguay presented the people of Montevideo, Minnesota an 11 foot bronze
statue of Jose Artigas, Montevideo, Uruguay's "Father of Independence."
The statue of Jose Artigas overlooks the main thoroughfare of Montevideo
known as Artigas Plaza. Each summer, the city celebrates "Fiesta Days"
during Father's Day weekend in June. The celebration consists of four
days of a variety of activities, concluding with a parade on Sunday
afternoon. Fiesta Days (Third Weekend in June) Celebrate Montevideo's
sister city relationship with Montevideo, Uruguay during this summer
festival. Fireworks, arts and crafts, sports events, Taste of Montevideo
and a variety of other entertainment and activities for the entire
family. Don't miss the Grand Day Parade, starting at 1PM on Father's
Day, one of the best small town parades in Minnesota! For more information,

in the Village (December) Visit Chippewa City Historical Park on the
first Saturday in December, and experience an old-fashioned Christmas,
complete with sleigh rides, entertainment, food, gift shop, demonstrations

Minnesota River Revival (September) Celebrating the river heritage
of the Montevideo area, this recent addition to Montevideo's annual
festivals is sure to delight all. Food, entertainment and education
all mingle, centered around the theme of the Minnesota River and its
preservation. Quilt Show (October, biannually) The Flying Geese Quilters
display exceptional examples of mid-western quilting, both old and
new. Quilting materials and supplies are also available for sale.
Chippewa County Fair (second week of August) The Chippewa County Fair
celebrates our agricultural heritage. Started in 1879, this annual
get together is a family favorite. With the emphasis on fun, 4-H,
FFA and open exhibits are displayed in various divisions. Other highlights
include business displays, grandstand events, carnival and many other
activities. Speedway Action (mid-May to mid-September) The Fiesta
City Speedway offers fast paced racing action every Friday evening
during racing season. Drivers compete in seven classes -- Pure Stock,
Hobby Stock, IMCA Street Stock, Midwest Modified, Pro-4 Modified,
Wissota Late Model and 2-person Cruisers. Join us for fast paced speedway
